Report Roadkill BC

This project hopes to:

• Identify wildlife vehicle collision hotspots.
• Identify species that are being involved in wildlife vehicle collisions, particularly smaller animals where collisions may have gone unreported and Species at Risk.
• Bring awareness to the effects of underreporting on population numbers and conservation efforts.

We are asking those in BC to take pictures of roadkill and upload them to iNaturalist. Your observations should automatically be added to Report Roadkill BC should they meet the project's specified parameters, but you can also add them directly to the project.

The image quality is not as important as the species and location information. If you find roadkill but can’t take a picture, you can message or email the Wildlife Collision Prevention Program with the location and species (if known), and we can add it to our database.

Safety Precautions

Wildlife vehicle collisions have the potential to occur on any road, street, or highway. Taking pictures of roadkill can put you in dangerous situations.

• If you are driving, do not stop anywhere that is unsafe or that will impact the flow of traffic. Do not take pictures while driving.
• If you are a pedestrian or a cyclist, do not put yourself in unsafe situations to take pictures of roadkill.
• The Report Roadkill BC project on iNaturalist contains images of roadkill that viewers may find disturbing. If you don’t wish to see these images but still want to contribute to the project, you can email your observations to wcpp@bccf.com or message them to us on Facebook or Instagram.
